    Temporary Connection

    Temporary Connection

We deliver cost-effective solutions for temporary connections. These might be needed to power sites, machinery, or tools, for no longer than five years.

Introduction

You can apply for a temporary connection to our network here.

Temporary connections should be used for 5 years or less, and are generally used to power site supplies whilst construction work is ongoing.

Need to arrange the disconnection of your temporary supply? Visit our Disconnections page.

What information you need to apply

Before you begin your application, it's helpful to have the below information:

- Your name, contact details & address.

- Owner/Occupier details (if this isn’t you) & a letter of authority.

- The site address (where you want the connection).

- A site location plan showing the site boundary & site ownership – our preference is scaled at 1:500, indicating the proposed layout of any new buildings, roads & metering positions.

- The date you require the first connection to be made (MM/YYYY format).

- The date when the site is due for completion (MM/YYYY format).

- The total maximum capacity at each property & heating type (if applicable).

- Details of any generation equipment e.g., PV cells (solar panels), wind turbines.

- Details of any other electrical equipment (if applicable) e.g., motors, welders, air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, electric vehicle charge points.

- If the connection is required for a temporary period, please confirm how long the connection is required for - i.e., up to and including five years.

- Status of planning permission if required.

Frequently asked questions

The law requires that a customer requesting a connection to be made by a Distribution Network Operator must provide a notice (which is your application). It states as part of the customer's application you must specify the date on or by which the connection is to be made.

This will help us to identify your premises, determine land ownership and ensure that any impact to third party land is understood. The plan should be free of unnecessary detail and be suitable for use as a background layer for our proposals to be prepared.

The site location plan, with the boundary and the proposed meter positions clearly marked is part of the minimum information we require you to provide.

You can use our online mapping tool to submit your site location plan or alternatively provide an ordnance survey or land registry plan. If you are struggling to provide us with a site location plan, our team can assist you.

We require a letter of authority if you are acting on behalf of the legal and registered owner or occupier of the premises where they require a new connection or modification to an existing connection. This letter should confirm that you have been appointed as an agent and have authority to act on behalf of your client.

Our Open Data portal offers access to data and information about our distribution network, including capacity availability.
