    across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

    Unlocking network capacity

    Unlocking network capacity

    to kick start a range of green-growth projects at locations across our region, from rapid EV charging to green shipping.

    £53m targeted investment

    £53m targeted investment

    to drive green growth and job creation for the benefit of the communities we serve.

Powering Green Recovery

We are investing £53m to unlock network capacity for green growth-boosting projects across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. The multimillion-pound investment will accelerate green growth and job creation and is part of a national Green Recovery Scheme that saw up to £300m made available for investment in vital electricity network across the country.

The investment will help with the response to the climate emergency by creating additional network capacity to enable decarbonisation, regeneration and connection of large-scale renewable generation. It will boost economic activity to bring forward more green jobs and enable our region to be a leader in clean energy growth.

Investment in every corner of the region

The Green Recovery Scheme will create capacity to support an array of green growth boosting projects. Accelerated investment in our network will enable a range of projects to come forward quicker, including:

  • Regeneration and development at the Humber Freeports;
  • Large scale solar and wind generation;
  • Rapid EV charging on our region’s motorways and trunk roads.

National thinking, local delivery

As the Government made clear in the Ten Point Plan, the green industrial revolution will impact on every corner of the UK. By working closely with Ofgem and the other electricity network operators, we have been able to unlock early investment in the grid that will stimulate green jobs and green growth in our region.

Criteria

The criteria for the Green Recovery Scheme is strict and the projects selected met the core criteria of:

  • Utilisation (how much of the capacity might be used in the near term)
  • Deliverability (how quickly solutions could be delivered)
  • Value for money (including wider societal benefits that can be achieved)

Sites not on the list for early investment as part of this Green Recovery Scheme will not miss out and may still be supported during our next business plan period (RIIO-ED2) which runs from 2023-2028.
