The Electricity Networks Association guide provides further information regarding connecting energy storage to our network. Find out more here.
What information you need to apply
It's common practice that the installer of your equipment will complete the application on your behalf.
Find a competent installer and certified generation products here.
It is helpful to have the following information to hand, as this will be needed during your application.
- Your name, contact details & address.
- Owner/Occupier details (if this isn’t you) & a letter of authority.

Additional guidance
When it comes to connecting energy storage to our network, we follow industry wide guidance from the Energy Networks Association. You can find detailed guidance in the Distributed Generation Connection Guide, specific to the size of the generation equipment you intend to connect.
In some circumstances, we may charge you for the quotation to connect your generation equipment. You can find out more about our Connection Offer Expense fees here.
Did you know? We also offer a fast-track application process for connecting small scale generation and storage devices, subject to the application meeting certain criteria. Find out more here.
Frequently asked questions
The law requires that a customer requesting a connection to be made by a Distribution Network Operator must provide a notice (which is your application). It states as part of the customer's application you must specify the date on or by which the connection is to be made.
This will help us to identify your premises, determine land ownership and ensure that any impact to third party land is understood. The plan should be free of unnecessary detail and be suitable for use as a background layer for our proposals to be prepared.
The site location plan, with the boundary and the proposed meter positions clearly marked is part of the minimum information we require you to provide.
You can use our online mapping tool to submit your site location plan or alternatively provide an ordnance survey or land registry plan. If you are struggling to provide us with a site location plan, our team can assist you.
Our Open Data portal offers access to data and information about our distribution network, including capacity availability.
