Additional guidance

In most circumstances we will conduct a site visit. Our team will be in touch to arrange a suitable date and time with you.

Northern Powergrid are not responsible for removing your electricity meter. Please contact your electricity supplier to arrange removal of your electricity meter at the property. Unsure of who your electricity supplier is? Find out here.

Frequently asked questions

The law requires that a customer requesting a connection to be made by a Distribution Network Operator must provide a notice (which is your application). It states as part of the customer's application you must specify the date on or by which the connection is to be made.

This will help us to identify your premises, determine land ownership, and ensure that any impact to third-party land is understood. The plan should be free of unnecessary detail and be suitable for use as a background layer for our proposals to be prepared.

The site location plan, with the boundary and the proposed meter positions clearly marked, is part of the minimum information we require you to provide.

You can use our online mapping tool to submit your site location plan or alternatively provide an ordnance survey or land registry plan. If you are struggling to provide us with a site location plan, our team can assist you.

We require a letter of authority if you are acting on behalf of the legal and registered owner or occupier of the premises where they require a new connection or modification to an existing connection. This letter should confirm that you have been appointed as an agent and have authority to act on behalf of your client.

Our Open Data portal offers access to data and information about our distribution network, including capacity availability.
