    EV Charging Points

    EV Charging Points

If you have connected an EV charging point and need to notify us or apply to connect one, you can do that here.

Introduction

Here you can find information around connecting EV charging points, or start the process to notify or apply to connect.

You can use this page to notify or apply to connect to install EV charging points.

For more information on EV Charging Points, please visit here.

We want to make the journey for connecting your EV charger as easy as we can.

The steps outlined below will help you to understand what to expect throughout the process.

To increase the size of a supply, please visit the Change Capacity page.

What information you need to apply

It's common practice that the installer of your equipment will complete the application on your behalf.

It is helpful to have the following information to hand, as this will be needed during your application.

- Your name, contact details & address.

- Owner/Occupier details (if this isn’t you) & a letter of authority.

- The site address (where you intend to install the equipment).

- A site location plan showing the site boundary & site ownership – our preference is scaled at 1:500, indicating the proposed layout of any new buildings, roads & metering positions.

- The date you require the first connection to be made (MM/YYYY format).

- The total maximum capacity at each property & heating type (if applicable).

- Details of any other electrical equipment (if applicable) e.g., motors, welders, air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, electric vehicle charge points.

- The MPAN number for any existing connection agreement that relates to the connection you are applying for.

- Installer name, contact details & address.

- Device to be installed.

- Existing devices at the premises.

- If there are safety concerns over the adequacy of service equipment.

Time and cost

Both the cost and timescale for connecting an EV charging point can vary, depending on the works required.

For more information, you can access our guide prices and timescales below.

Guide prices and timescales

Additional guidance

In some circumstances, the installer will be able to confirm that the installation of the EV charging point satisfies the notification criteria set out in the application form.

In these cases, the installer of your equipment can connect the EV charging point, and notify us within 28 days of the installation.

If the criteria cannot be met, the installer should submit the application prior to connecting the new equipment, to ensure we can maintain safe and effective operation of the electricity network.

Frequently asked questions

The law requires that a customer requesting a connection to be made by a Distribution Network Operator must provide a notice (which is your application). It states as part of the customer's application you must specify the date on or by which the connection is to be made.

This will help us to identify your premises, determine land ownership and ensure that any impact to third party land is understood. The plan should be free of unnecessary detail and be suitable for use as a background layer for our proposals to be prepared.

The site location plan, with the boundary and the proposed meter positions clearly marked is part of the minimum information we require you to provide.

You can use our online mapping tool to submit your site location plan or alternatively provide an ordnance survey or land registry plan. If you are struggling to provide us with a site location plan, our team can assist you.

We require a letter of authority if you are acting on behalf of the legal and registered owner or occupier of the premises where they require a new connection or modification to an existing connection. This letter should confirm that you have been appointed as an agent and have authority to act on behalf of your client.

Our Open Data portal offers access to data and information about our distribution network, including capacity availability.
