People who have existing electrical utility tradesperson skills, or communications experience in the armed forces, are being encouraged to power their careers by applying to train as an experienced learner to become a fully qualified Craftsperson at Northern Powergrid.
Powering the lives of our eight million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses, applicants who already possess a good range of power and energy industry related skills, can join our two-year training pathway that could ultimately lead to an energised career in electrical engineering.
With roles available across the North East, Yorkshire, the Humber and northern Lincolnshire, successful candidates will be at the forefront of delivering a power network that meets the region’s needs now, and in the future.
Our two-year programme is for experienced learners and will provide an excellent mix of practical experience, on-the-job training and enrolment onto the Power Industry Standard apprenticeship to gain a formal qualification.
Joining our Outstanding Ofsted-rated training programme, candidates should have a minimum of four years relevant industry experience as either a Domestic or Commercial Electrician, Electrical Fitter/Technician, Electrician’s Mate, Rail Electrical Craftsperson, Utility Tradesperson, or experience in the Armed Forces in an operations or communications maintenance role.
The Craftsperson Trainee programme will build on candidates’ proven experience and skills to train working as either an Overhead Linesperson (who constructs and maintains overhead electricity lines), Cable Jointer (who repairs, installs and connects underground electricity cables), or a Substation Fitter (who installs and maintains electrical plant and equipment).
Steve McDonald, Interim Director of Field Operations, said: “The Experienced Learner Craftsperson programme provides outstanding opportunities to progress your career as a qualified Power Network Craftsperson.
“If you’re looking for a new challenge that’s fully energised, want a brighter future contributing to delivering a power network that meets the region’s green energy needs, we’d love to hear from you.
“We welcome people from all backgrounds to apply and look forward to helping you fulfil your power network potential at Northern Powergrid.”
