UPDATE: 10:00am, Saturday 25 January 2025
-
Whilst the worst of the storm may have passed, we’re expecting the true scale of the damage caused to the power network to be revealed today. The damage caused by Storm Éowyn’s strong winds has led to over 150,000 customers across our North East, Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire network experience power cuts.
-
Our teams worked through the night in challenging conditions and successfully managed to get the power back to over 123,000 customers.
-
The majority of customers in Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire have now had their power back on, with the final remaining customers expected to be back on today.
-
Our priority is repairing the most severe damage, and getting the 29,000 customers who are still without power back on as quickly as possible.
-
Our teams are now able to assess the damage and the repairs needed across the North East, and we expect to have an update on when power will be back on for the customers in this area by lunchtime today.
-
We apologise for the delay in information and will update customers as soon as we are able to give an accurate time for their power to be restored.
-
We understand how difficult it can be without power, and we are sorry to all those customers who are waking up without their electricity this morning. We are offering additional support by way of reimbursing costs for essentials such as hot food.
-
We are proactively contacting those who are still without power to offer additional support and will keep customers updated regularly via text message, on our website and on our social media channels.
Although our region was not as severely hit as other parts of the UK, wind speeds of up to 96mph were recorded in parts of the North East yesterday, resulting in over 150,000 customers experiencing disruption to their power supply. We know how difficult it can be to be without power, and we are sorry for all those who continue to be without power this morning.
Our teams worked through the night and will continue to assess the true scale of the damage today to give our customers the best estimate of how long it will take to carry out the repairs and get the power back on. Our 24/7 teams are still on hand to answer customer calls and offer additional support where needed. We’ve partnered with local organisations to provide warm hubs and catering vans offering breakfasts and drinks for those who are still without power as a result of Storm Éowyn.
Additionally, our customer support vehicles are out in the community, offering hot drinks, snacks, charging points, and answering any questions. Our teams are here to help and provide support during this challenging time.
Northern Powergrid’s Director of Customer Service, Louise Lowes said: “Some customers will be waking up without power this morning due to the severe damage Storm Éowyn has caused to our network. Our teams worked through the evening and are out there as we speak working on repairs to get our customers back on as quickly as possible.
“Our priority is supporting those customers who remain without power, and we are reaching out to those who we know might need additional support. If you haven’t heard from us and need more help, please get in touch by calling us on 105. We will not stop working until all customers are back on, and will do everything we can to support these customers.”
