Powering Progress: Regional conference supercharges efforts to get the North to Net Zero.
Posted:
Northern Powergrid is set to invest millions as it gears up to support the green transition and is using its flagship conference to highlight its role in enabling regional decarbonisation.
On Thursday 26 September, Northern Powergrid is hosting its third Net Zero for the North conference, which is quickly becoming one of the regions’ most important energy focused events.
The conference brings together industry leaders, decision makers and key stakeholders, all committed to creating a more sustainable energy future for the North.
The theme of this Autumn’s conference is ‘Collaborative Planning for a Net Zero North’, highlighting the need for collective and coordinated action from network operators, government bodies, business, and local communities to achieve regional and national decarbonisation goals.
By working together, stakeholders can align efforts, optimise resources, and drive innovation, to ensure a successful and fair low carbon transition.
Those attending the conference can expect to hear from the leading voices on net zero and future energy, interactive workshops and exhibitions and networking opportunities, all designed to promote productive conversations on critical topics. Key areas of focus will include:
- Collaborative network planning: How Northern Powergrid is working with stakeholders and targeting network investment to develop the energy networks of the future.
- Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs): A deep dive into the new RESP role and how to ensure regional energy needs are integrated into national strategies.
- Major connections: Focusing on connecting large-scale projects, including wind farms and solar, to ensure infrastructure can support the growing demand for green energy.
Delegates can also learn about the Northern Powergrid Foundation, a charitable initiative that to date, has invested over £860,000 to boost the energy resilience of communities across the North.
Northern Powergrid is a critical enabler of the North's net zero ambitions. Through its Distribution System Operation (DSO) role, the company expects to unlock £1 billion in consumer and net zero benefits over the next five years.
By focusing on innovation, collaboration, and targeted investment in vital local electricity networks, Northern Powergrid is committed to driving the low carbon transition and ensuring the region’s energy future is sustainable, affordable and inclusive.
