Following the snow, wind and rain across Saturday evening into Monday, we’ve successfully restored power to over 42,000 customers who were affected.
We want to thank our customers for their patience while we worked to get their power back on as quickly as possible. Whilst the conditions are still challenging in places, our teams are continuing to work on keeping our customers’ lights on, whatever the weather.
West Yorkshire’s rural communities were worst affected through Sunday, with freezing conditions, fallen trees, flooding, and debris making access difficult, but our teams stepped up - patrolling by foot and helicopter to get the job done safely.
Sunday evening brought further wintery showers and icy conditions, causing further power cuts for customers in County Durham and Tyne and Wear. Our teams were also out in out in our communities, checking on our customers and offering hot drinks and a place to charge their phones.
Steve McDonald, Northern Powergrid’s Director of Field Operations, said:
“We were prepared and ready to support our customer impacted by the heavy snow from Saturday evening.
“We had extra teams ready to go with our 4x4s and specialist access vehicles so we can get peoples’ lights back on and carry out repairs as a result of the wintry conditions.
“We stepped up additional resource in our contact centre from all over the organisation to answer calls and support customers – including helping our most vulnerable customers who are part of our free Priority Services Membership.
“The team has done a fantastic job in very difficult circumstances.
“I would like to say thank you to our customers for their patience and kind words - especially when it came to understanding the need to keep our people safe.”
