NORTHERN POWERGRID'S NEW LOOK-UP TOOL DELIVERS ENHANCED INSIGHT ON ITS MAJOR CONNECTIONS PIPELINE
Posted:
Northern Powergrid, the electricity distribution network operator for the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire has launched an important new tool that will enable major connections customers and developers to make more informed decisions about how and where to connect.
The network operators new web-based, major projects pipeline look-up tool delivers enhanced insight for prospective connection customers. It identifies which projects are connecting at each of Northern Powergrid’s major interfaces with the transmission system
- known as grid supply points or GSPs - helping them to identify the areas where they are most likely to secure a quicker and more cost-effective connection.
Importantly, it will also benefit customers with connections projects already in the pipeline, by helping them to understand where their projects are in the queue. As customers build this intelligence into their decision making, it may mean that capacity is freed up as less viable projects are removed from the connections pipeline.
Jim Cardwell, Head of Energy Systems Policy at Northern Powergrid said: “We understand the importance of providing timely and accurate information that allows our customers to make the most informed investment decisions.
“Customers developing projects across our network need to understand what connection points provide the best chance of securing a connection, at what cost and in what timescales. Our new major projects pipeline look-up tool provides this information in a way that is easy to access and understand.
“The tool builds on the work done by National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) to develop its Clearview Connect tool and we’re pleased to deliver a comparable level of clarity, information and insight for customers seeking connections in our region.”
It is expected that this important new open information resource, alongside the other initiatives Northern Powergrid is already delivering, including queue management and delegated technical limits, will free up capacity and speed up the connections process for major infrastructure, storage and green energy projects across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.
