NORTHERN POWERGRID MARKS GREEN CAREERS WEEK WITH RECRUITMENT DRIVE FOR DSO UNIT
Posted:

Northern Powergrid, the company responsible for the electricity network that powers everyday life for 8 million people across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, is powering green careers with exciting opportunities to join its innovative and dynamic Distribution System Operation (DSO) Unit.
Green Careers Week, now in its second year, is led by National Careers Week and provides the opportunity to highlight career pathways to all ages and demographics, working in the energy sector.
Timely, to coincide with the national campaign week, the network operator has launched twenty new roles within its DSO Unit – ranging from Commercial Manager, Local System Planning Engineer, Operational Technology Engineers to an Analyst, Data Specialist, Customer Service Manager – to name a few.
Maurice Lynch, Northern Powergrid’s Head of Flexibility Services, said: “Distribution System Operation (DSO) is a key enabler for the company’s transition to net zero. As the number of low carbon technologies rises, such as electric vehicles and heat pumps, so too will overall electricity demand on our network.
“DSO will deliver a smarter and more flexible energy system to make the most of our network assets - enabling our region to decarbonise more efficiently. The twenty new roles are paramount to how we shape, progress, and deliver our plans and we are looking for talented and motivated people to be part of our success in decarbonising the grid.
“If you have a passion to develop teams, systems and processes to manage our network more dynamically, while providing a 10/10 service for our customers, please apply or get in touch for more information.”
Victoria Short, Northern Powergrid’s Head of Resourcing, said: “Northern Powergrid has set out proposals to create more than 1,000 new jobs between 2023-28, to support our £3bn+ investment plans to create a smarter, greener energy system across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.
“Throughout national Green Careers Week we’re highlighting the range of opportunities to join our business, which is a particularly exciting time for prospective candidates, as they can be part of our net zero and decarbonisation agenda - driving some of the most significant changes for energy networks in decades.
“Northern Powergrid is a signatory of the national ‘Energy Networks Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Charter’ and we are committed to playing our part in helping build a more diverse and inclusive UK energy sector, and to reflect the needs of our customers and communities we serve across our region.”
