NORTHERN POWERGRID CONTINUES TO WORK ON REPAIRING THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY STORM ÉOWYN

Posted:
24/01/2025

Update at 20:30, Friday 24 January 2025

Fallen tree over a road as a result of storm damage

  • The damage caused to the power network by Storm Éowyn has been significant and over 130,000 customers across our North East, Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire network have so far been affected.

  • Our teams have continued to work in challenging conditions to return the power supply to over 96,000 customers, and now the wind conditions are easing we will continue to work through the weekend to carry out the extensive repairs needed to the network to get our customers’ power back on as quickly as possible.

  • Our priority remains getting the remaining 34,000 customers’ power back on:

  • Due to the severity of the weather and the damage to our network, some of our North East customers will be without power throughout the weekend.

  • For our customers in Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire, we expect to get the majority of customers back on this evening with the remainder being restored tomorrow.

  • Due to the difficult conditions and extent of damage caused, we expect to have an update on when power will be back on for the customers in the North East during Saturday morning. We apologise for the delay in information and will update customers as soon as we are able to give an accurate time for their power to be restored.

  • We understand how challenging it can be without power, especially through the evening, and for those affected into tomorrow, we are offering additional support by way of reimbursing costs for essentials such as hot food.

  • We are proactively contacting those who are still without power to offer additional support and will keep customers updated regularly via text message, on our website and on our social media channels.

We know how difficult it can be to be without power during the night. We are sorry for all those who continue to be affected and we will do everything we can to support our customers. Our 24/7 teams are still on hand to answer customer calls and offer additional support where needed.

Northern Powergrid’s Director of Customer Service, Louise Lowes said: “Storm Éowyn has caused severe damage to our network which has unfortunately impacted over 130,000 customers’ power supply. We knew this would be a challenge and our teams are doing everything they can to get the lights back on. The high winds have continued to hit us throughout today and this has unfortunately meant we’ve not been able to carry out the repairs needed, and will not be able to get all our customers’ power back on tonight.

“Our priority is supporting those customers who remain without power tonight, and we are reaching out to those who we know might need additional support. If you haven’t heard from us and need more help, please get in touch by calling us on 105. We will not stop working until all customers are back on, and will do everything we can to support these customers.

“We want to thank our customers for their continued patience. We have had some really difficult weather this winter, and our teams are continuing to be there for our customers when they need us most. We are doing all we can to provide updates about when we will be able to get their power back on.”
