Learning at Work Week (LAWW) 2024 has been launched on Monday with a big bang!
We had loads of interesting activities for people to enjoy, from our VR demo in our Northallerton office, set in a sub-station style environment, to select the appropriate safety gear, test equipment and identify risks and hazards to our Fireside Chat with our Directors Paul Fitton (Director of IS) and Mark Nicholson (Director of Engineering) for career journey inspiration.
We learned about the different routes they took to Directorship as well as heard some fantastic advice on how to get ahead, how to put yourself out there and to take calculated risks. Honesty, integrity and hard work and teamwork being some of the key messages.
Jodie Coe, our People and Change Director visited some apprentices at Walker Primary Substation where we have some EHV fitting working being completed and donned her PPE to give them a hand today in the beautiful sunshine.
Finally, we ended the day with Kaplan, Gateshead College and QA – our preferred training partners with an apprenticeship marketplace where we are offering colleagues the opportunity to do apprenticeships in their area of work!

Of course, the competitions were opened as well with our treasure hunt through our dedicated LAWW Teams channel full of useful and career enhancing articles and our speed cup stacking challenge for the fastest team to win a lunchtime pizza delivery for their team by learning and perfecting this new skill over 7 days!
