Northern Powergrid is carrying out significant upgrades to the electricity network in Harrogate, to ensure a robust and reliable power supply for decades to come.
Why now?
With electricity demand expected to double over the next 20 years, due to population growth and increased adoption of electric vehicles, heat pumps, and other low-carbon technologies, we’re investing over £20 million in Harrogate’s vital electricity infrastructure. This investment will support the community’s growth while paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
Where?
From Sunday 23 February 2025, traffic management will be in place on Jennyfield Drive and then Ripon Road, with work beginning on 24 February and expected to last until the end of March.
What you need to know
You may experience some temporary disruption, including parking restrictions and traffic management measures. We’re working closely with North Yorkshire County Council and the local community to minimise the impact, and we’ll make sure that access to properties and businesses is maintained at all times.
Once complete, these essential upgrades are expected to:
- Improve the reliability and resilience of Harrogate’s vital electricity network.
- Minimise the need for future works and disruption.
- Create network capacity to support growth and development.
- Enable more people to make the switch to low carbon technologies like electric vehicles and heat pumps.
- Facilitate the future electrification of public transport in Harrogate.
We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient, and we’re committed to completing this work as quickly as possible.
