An Overhead Craft Technician who regularly climbs above working on overhead power lines has been thanked by a customer for going ‘above and beyond’ when he took time out of his busy day to chat with young children.
Adrian Farmer, who is based in our North Yorkshire region and has worked at Northern Powergrid for nearly four decades, was carrying out maintenance when local children stopped to take an interest, curious to learn what he was doing.
Awestruck by the size of our Unimog, which enables Adrian to repair and maintain overhead power lines using the hot glove insulated bucket truck, the children were fascinated by his job and were excited to have their photo taken.
As a truck, bike and digger enthusiast himself, Adrian was more than happy to speak with the boys, and their Mum, explaining how his role helps to keep the power on for millions of customers across Yorkshire.
Adrian said: “I’ve been very fortunate to represent the company on many occasions, but it’s times like this that really resonates. It brings a huge smile to your face seeing the younger generation passionate about our industry - and our vehicles – something my disabled son also enjoys as he loves the occasional visit in the car to see all our vehicles lined up in the yard, ready to go out whenever customers need us.
“I love my job and feel very privileged to help other children learn more about electricity and how we power people’s everyday lives.”
Sharing their gratitude on social media, the customer said: "Just wanted to say thanks to the very kind man who drives the Unimog truck for taking the time out of your morning to chat to my boys yesterday when you saw them trying to get pictures of your truck!
"You were brilliant with them, really patient and they are still talking about the gloves! You made our day with your small act of kindness and time explaining all the different things to them."
