“Make sure you embrace the journey of continuous learning and growth.
“Push yourself to come up with solutions which are outside the box. Every new skill you gain and every project you work on opens doors to a fulfilling career path and develops you as an electrical engineer.”
“Our engineers are working on projects that will truly shape the future of the energy industry.

“It’s a really exciting time to be in this field.”
Northern Powergrid is committed to leading the way in innovative engineering solutions needed to develop a smarter, more flexible grid that supports our customers future energy needs.
Iain Miller, Head of Connections Design for Northern Powergrid, said “I hope hearing about Matthew’s journey to his role really does inspire the next generation of engineers to come and join Northern Powergrid.
“One of the great things about Engineering is it’s where the creative and the analytical meet.
“It is about being able to use science and maths to analyse and solve problems, but it is also about the imagination to see what problems need to be solved and what might be possible.”
Given the UK’s goal of achieving net zero by 2050, demand is set to soar as more electricity is needed to power homes, businesses and transport.
Northern Powergrid’s engineers are at the forefront of the green transition, driving innovative solutions to help customers and communities decarbonise.
With a focus on professional development, innovation, and community impact, Northern Powergrid is the ideal place for those looking to build a rewarding career in engineering.
