The region’s largest electricity distribution operator is celebrating a commendation for its commitment to inspiring a lifelong learning culture.

Earlier this year, Northern Powergrid took part in Learning at Work Week, a national initiative to get employers to cultivate a positive learning culture across their organisations.
The week saw the network operator showcasing high-quality learning and development engagement activities across the business getting everyone involved and inspired to think about their workplace development.
And for this, they have been highly commended in Learning at Work Week Impact Awards 2024 in the ‘Inspiring a Lifelong Learning Culture’ category for large organisations.
The Learning at Work Week Impact Awards celebrate bold, creative and impactful campaigns that promote and drive lifelong learning at work.
The awareness week and awards are run by Campaign for Learning, a UK-based charitable initiative that champions lifelong learning and promotes learning cultures.
The judges felt that the work that Northern Powergrid put into inspiring a lifelong learning culture was to a very high standard and deserved to be recognised alongside the winner of the category.
This recognition has today (Friday) been welcomed by senior leadership at Northern Powergrid and has furthered its commitment to meet personal and professional development goals.
Chris Nowland, Head of Talent and Organisational Development said: “To be recognised for all the hard work and creativity that went into Learning at Work Week is an incredible feeling.
“It’s a testament to those who worked to make Learning at Work Week a cross-organisation event, bringing colleagues together to build a stronger team and encouraging people to take the next step in their career at Northern Powergrid.
“This commendation has spurred us on to make next year’s Learning at Work Week even better, making sure our colleagues get the best out of themselves and achieve their goals.
“But our work doesn’t just stop with the end of Learning at Work Week, we have used this as an opportunity to bring personal and development to the forefront of the conversation at Northern Powergrid.
“We want to make sure everyone has the chance to explore what interests them in the workplace and how it can develop Northern Powergrid as a whole.”
Rachel Nagel, head of brand at NCFE, the sponsors of the award said: “We were highly impressed with Northern Powergrid’s Learning at Work Week.
“The partnerships and team-based initiatives they put in place demonstrated their commitment to accessible, lifelong learning and successfully raised awareness of the learning opportunities available, inspiring colleagues to pursue apprenticeships, upskill and connect learning to careers goals.
“Their Learning at Work Week event shows how embedding lifelong learning into corporate culture can successfully support both personal growth alongside organisational success.”
Julia Wright, national director at Campaign for Learning, the coordinators of Learning at Work Week nationally said: “It’s great to see how Northern Powergrid is inspiring lifelong learning at work.
“As the world changes, particularly in technology, it’s crucial that people and organisations continue to build knowledge, skills and understanding so they can adapt and make the most of new opportunities.
“Northern Powergrid’s Learning at Work Week shows how well-crafted and creative learning campaigns can connect colleagues to the learning and skills they need to grow, supporting the whole organisation.”
