BEET - Boston Spa Energy Efficiency Trial
During the first half of 2024, the project will be utilising specially developed technology we've called the BEET-Box, and harnessing data from local smart meters to optimise network voltages. Put simply, we'll be safely adjusting the voltage delivered to customers' homes and businesses to provide only the level of power their appliances need to work most effectively.
BEET could help each of the 15,000 households and businesses in the pilot area to make savings on their energy bills of on average £28 and cut their carbon emissions by 20kg a year*.
If rolled out nationwide, we believe BEET could reduce UK household energy bills by up to £770m and cut up to 1.1 million tonnes of CO2 each year - that's the equivalent of taking up to 200,000 petrol or diesel cars off UK roads.
*Calculations are based on several factors, including our regulator Ofgem’s definition of typical usage and assumed unit costs of £0.30 per unit
